JiLin University Marxism Philosophy Subject was founded in 1958, which was authorized confer of doctor’s degree headmost in 1981 and was approved as keystone subject by Nation Education Committee in 1988, in the year 2002 it was defined again as national keystone subject by National Ministry of Education. In the year 1985, National Ministry of Education authorized to set up the predecessor of this research center –JiLin University Modern Philosophy Institute in order to strengthen study and research of philosophy subject. In Oct. 1999, prior JiLin University decided to establish Marxism Philosophy Research Center and president of university appointed Professor Sun Zhengyu as director of this Center.
Marxism Philosophy Research has outstanding strength among Literae Humaniores Research in Jilin University and has gained substantial achievement in the field of basic theory research, which played an important role in prospering our nation philosophy project and promoting reform of our nation philosophy education. The newly restructured Jilin University decided to set up “ Philosophy Basic Theory Research Center” in April 2002 and confirmed it was key research base for Literae Humaniores in Jilin University. Professor Sun Zhengyu was appointed as dean of Center, Professors Sun Litian and Helai were appointed as vice dean of Center. Professor Sun Zhengyu engaged 13 middle and young aged scholars at philosophy who were influential in Jilin University as full time researchers. Professor Sun Zhengyu also engaged the famous scholars Li Deshun, Zhang Wenxian, Wang Nanshi, Han Qingxiang, Zou Guangyuan as part time researchers. Deep Research and Innovation of Philosophy Basic Theory was confirmed as keystone and purpose of Research Center.
Jilin University Philosophy Basic Theory Research has formed an important influential academic force in field of philosophy with reasonable structure, ordered level in three interests of philosophy concept and philosophy concept innovation, materialism historical concept and society development theory and gained important recognized achievement with evident character. Regarding research on philosophy concept, we focused on Marxism philosophy concept revolution and the integrative philosophy transform of theory characteristic, research object and society function realized due to philosophy concept reform. We also did the research on how trying to explain philosophical thought manner, living base, faction confliction and historical evolvement according to this philosophy concept revolution. Dialectic theory was the strong interest in our study field with evident characteristic that we formed , during this long period , we took in hand series of important subjects such as “Dialectic Theory and Practice “ and published series of academic monographs which accumulated rich experiences for development of dialectic theory of our nation. Materialism historical concept and society development theory is another interest we studied , during a long period, we did research on modern Chinese society development in theory combining philosophy with society development theory on the cross integrative research from subjects of philosophy, economics and politics with substantial achievement.
We shall bring into play of existed advantage based on foundation that we have had and strengthen intercommunication with international philosophy groups in view of globalization as well as extending train of thought and renewing study method and concept, try to develop our center to become a philosophy basic theory research center taking first position inland and with international influence.
